When Torr Reservoir was built, it was hoped that it would be a haven for aquatic birds and now several years later it is proving to be exactly that.

Of particular note was Somerset's second ever Lesser Scaup. This rare North American duck spent the winter commuting between Torr and Stourhead.
Rarer still was the Franklin's Gull that I found in January. There are generally only 2 or 3 records of this North American gull in Britain every year. There have only been 2 previous records in the county."
